Kindergarten Report Card/Class Policies

Class Rules:
1. the student follows the "Big 5" rules for listening and follows the school rules.
2. The student respects self, others, and the teacher.
3. The student is safe with self, others, materials, and with classroom environment.
"The Big 5" for listening to the teacher
1. sits still
2. Hands and feet are quiet
3. Lips are closed
4. Eyes are on the teacher
5. Ears are open for listening to the teacher
Behavior Cards
-Green card-on target, listening well, following directions
-Yellow-multiple warnings have been given regarding teacher expectations
-Red-Teacher conference with parent involvement, and possibly with the principal if needed
Consequences:
-The first time: the teacher looks at the child and waits to see if the child corrects the behavior
-The second time: the teacher will say the child's name and checks to see if the child corrects the behavior
-The third time: the teacher will gently state the child's name, states the misbehavior and asks the child to explain to the teacher what the appropriate behavior should be. The teacher may have a small conference with the child.
-The fourth time: the child will be asked to sit in the "think chair" in order to think of the appropriate classroom behavior
-the fifth time or more: the teacher and the student will have a conference to help the child to engage in the appropriate classroom behavior. The teacher and the student will fill out a behavior documentation slip. The child's parent will be notified about the misbehavior.
-Parent, teacher, and student will work on a behavior management plan that addresses the situation.
-If needed the principal will participate in further discussions.
Rewards-for students who follow the rules, they will receive:
-Verbal praises
-Positive notes sent home
-Small rewards from the reward box
-class parties
-shark smiles
-additional classroom responsibilities will be given
Teacher Responsibilities (Linda Albert and Cooperative Discipline/Love and Logic)
-The teacher strives to help the child to feel the three C's: cared for, capable, and cooperative
-The teacher will provide the five A's: acceptance, assurance, affirmation, appreciation, and attention.
